Eid Mubarak 1428 H

Today is a day of celebration, a day of freedom, a day of joy and happiness, a day of Truth and fearlessness. Today is also a day of unity and brotherhood. Unity that is built on sincerity, love and understanding, a unity that is built on fearlessness and commitment. It is this unity that can and will bring about a just social change within our society. Today is also a day where we the Believers confirm the Oneness of Allah, we confirm our commitment to this message of Tawheed, that truly Allah is Supreme and that we will enjoin that which is good and eradicate that which is evil.

In my lovely country - Indonesia, Eid night will be celebrated at all mosques where a special programme will be held. Takbir will be recited until the next morning and lectures and speeches will be given by various scholars. Special gifts will be distributed to those children who fast for the first time in their life and to those who fasted the full month before reaching age of bulugh (maturity). Gifts and prizes will be given to students of Madrassas for their performance during the holy month. Dinner will be served at the end of the ceremony.

On this day of Eid, we wish you all “Eid Mubarak”, and that with love and respect, unity and brotherhood, May God bless us all and may the lessons we have learnt in the month of Ramadhan permeate our hearts and limbs and spread to the wider community so that we may all succeed in putting God first in our lives.

Eid has a special touch in Indonesia
Eid in Indonesia is celebrated in a big way with two days of public holidays. One week prior to Eid, the town is highly geared up for the festive season. Decorations, and lights are all over the city. Traffic jams clog the city due to the rush to go shopping. All the shops are open up until midnight.

The night before Eid is a happy occasion for our children. Eid gifts are distributed to the children along with the prizes and certificates for the Qur’an competition.

On Eid day, Eid prayers starts at about 6.30 a.m. after which we all go to the graveyard to offer our prayers and remember those who are no longer with us. In the afternoon the Jamaat organises lunch so that we can all meet and exchange Eid greetings with each other. Evenings are left for families to spend Eid together, and they often go out on picnics and end their day with dinner.

Eid is a time to do good, and to remember those less fortunate than ourselves
Allah (SWT) has once again bestowed on us the blessings of Eid, an occasion to increase our good deeds. Each Eid marks the conclusion of an important period of worship, and the determination to continue in obedience and submission to Allah (SWT). In moments of extreme pleasure or sadness, a Muslim never forgets his Creator’s Greatness, Might, Glory, and Watchfulness.

In our region this day begins with prayers at the mosque followed by visits to homes of friends and relatives, especially those who have lost loved ones since the last Eid and a visit to the graveyard. In the evening, people often go for leisure to beaches and parks. We also distribute traditional sweets for this special occasion amongst friends and relatives.

On this occasion let us also spare a thought for our less fortunate brethren who, due to poverty and deprivation, are condemned to a life of misery and sufferings. A true joy can be felt only when it is widely and genuinely shared with many. On this day, therefore, let us pledge to strive to help the needy and the poor, alleviate their sufferings and enable them to participate in the festivities of Eid.

We extend our heartiest felicitations on this joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr to our colleagues, all community members and all Muslims around the world…

To all our brothers and sisters in Islam around the world, I take this opportunity to wish you all our heartest felicitations on this occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Taqabbalallaahu minna wa minkum.
